CAT Percentile Predictor 2017

CAT 2017 Percentile Predictor is an online tool offered by MBAUniverse.com and some coaching centers that helps you to know what CAT 2017 score and percentile you are likely to get on basis of your performance in CAT 2017 exam. The more accurate you are in understanding your total number of attempts and correct answers for each of the CAT sections, the nearer you are to predict your CAT 2017 percentile.
IIMs have disclosed the process of “CAT score normalization” which is used to prepare CAT percentile on basis of raw score leading to scaled score and finally getting the shape of CAT percentile.MBAUniverse.com and other coaching center websites also use this approach.

According to IIMs,CAT 2017 shall be conducted in two sessions. Two different Test Forms shall be administered in two Test Sessions. In order to ensure fairness and equity in comparison of performances of the candidates across different test sessions, the scores of the candidates shall be subjected to a process of Normalization.

The Normalization process shall adjust for location and scale differences of score distributions across different forms. After normalization across different forms, the scores shall be further normalized across different sections. The scaled scores obtained by this process shall be converted into percentiles for purposes of shortlisting
For reporting purposes, Scaled Scores for each section (Section I: Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension (VARC), Section II: Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning (DILR), and Section III: Quantitative Ability (QA)) and Total along with the Percentiles shall be published.
The process of Normalization is an established practice for comparing candidate scores across multiple Forms and is similar to those being adopted in other large educational selection tests conducted in India, such as Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE). For normalization across sections, we shall use the percentile equivalence.’

CAT 2017 must-read expert Tips #4 - Logical Reasoning

Logical Reasoning (LR) in CAT 2017 can prove to be the game changer in the revised CAT Syllabus and CAT Exam Pattern to boost or doom your percentile score. Despite scoring 97 or 99 you may not get shortlisted by any IIM, in case your Logical Reasoning remains weak.
12 to 16 questions on Logical Reasoning in CAT 2017 with a maximum score of 48 will consist of 4 Non-MCQs also without any penalty of negative marking. It may take your CAT percentile up to a very high level or can slide it down below the qualifying level of 70 or 80 required by IIMs, depending upon your attempting the question sets.
Logical Reasoning was separated from Verbal Ability section in 2015 and now has found a place with Data Interpretation as a separate section in CAT 2017. Questions on both DILR taken together have formed a new 3rd section now which is as important as other sections. Earlier till 2014 Logical Reasoning was clubbed to Verbal Ability section and Data Interpretation was clubbed to Quantitative Ability Section.
Official CAT Mock: LR questions reduced
Questions on Logical Reasoning could be either 12 or 16 as revealed by Official CAT Mock test released by IIMs on October 30. If you can crack 7-8 questions in LR section correct, you may score a high sectional percentile of 90+ in CAT 2017. CAT 2017 exam is on November 26 and hardly a week remains to brush up, and revise your last minute preparation on Logical Reasoning for CAT 2017 exam day.

CAT 2017 Exam Analysis: In-depth CAT Exam Analysis by MBA expert

 CAT 2017 Exam Analysis
Common Admission Test (CAT) the largest MBA entrance exam gives surprises and twists every year even if there is no change in the exam pattern. CAT exam analysis reveals the fact that more and more candidates are taking CAT every year and the number of test takers has increased during the past 5 years substantially. CAT 2016 again proved this fact. Out of 2.32 lakh total registered candidates, 1.95 lakh test takers appeared in CAT 2016 exam on December 4, 2016.

2.31 lakhs candidates have registered for CAT 2017 and it is expected that around 2 lakh candidates would appear in CAT 2017 exam on November 26, 2017. Immediately after CAT Session-1 and CAT session-2 are over, MBAUniverse.com will publish detailed CAT 2017 exam analysis.

The CAT 2017 exam analysis will be slot-wise, will be thorough on CAT sectional and overall analysis and would predict the expected cut offs for top IIMs – slot-wise, section wise and overall to help the IIM aspirants to know all about their chances to get into their dream B-schools.
CAT 2016 exam was held on December 4, 2016 in slot-1 and slot-2 in morning and afternoon sessions with a test duration of 3 hours each. Both the sessions of Slot-1 and Slot-2 in CAT 2016 exam were over on the same day.

Thousands of the students who interacted with us after coming out of the testing hall in the morning slot-1 session and afternoon slot-2 session shared that the CAT 2016 test paper was moderate except that the Verbal Ability and few questions in Quant were found to be of a little more difficulty level.

Most of them agreed that Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning was not as tough either in slot-1 and slot-2 as was in CAT last year but was more lengthy and despite knowing how to solve, the time did not permit to solve all of them.

CAT 2016 in slot-1 as well as in slot-2 was pretty much on the lines of last year CAT exam and was divided in 3 sections with 100 questions. Number of Non-MCQs in CAT 2016 was reduced to 25% from 28% last year which was a setback for many test takers since non-MCQs do not carry any negative marking.
Students reported that there was a difference in the marking pattern as already announced by IIM Bangalore and was present in the instruction part of the actual exam. Earlier it was informed that the CAT 2016 exam would carry maximum 300 marks whereas the actual exam displayed 100 maximum marks.

With QA becoming slightly tougher in the earlier and placing more questions on Arithmetic, the section chose to reduce the number of Non-MCQs from 10 to 7. The section also saw the reduction in weightage for higher maths.

Online calculator remained a bit of help for non engineers and might improve the academic diversity in IIM class rooms in 2017.

Reducing the number of slots from 4 to 2 and the days from 2 to 1, has made CAT 2016 less biased. CAT 2016 could be a precursor to making CAT 2017 a single slot paper on a single day. That way, the entire issue of normalization between sets can be done away with and every student is tested on the same questions.

The score normalization should not be an issue in CAT 2016 as the normalization is clearly defined by the IIMs and therefore there is no scope for ambiguity, and heartburn, unlike in the past CAT exams

It is the consistent practice and practice which can take you to higher level of Quant preparation. You might have no-strong background in mathematics but IIMs also do not need only a Quant expert. The need is to think logically and attempt smartly.
During their last few days of preparation CAT 2017 aspirants are advised to avoid following mistakes. It will help them to score high in the CAT 2017 exam.
Don’t Jump to finish line
It is not advisable to start and read with the objective of ‘finishing’ a chapter than deriving the learning out of it. CAT aspirants tend to read QA chapters like a Novel and forget carrying pen and paper before opening the book.
So ensure that you need to learn more out of what you are reading instead of hurrying up to the finish line of the chapter. This will help you to understand what petty mistakes you make while attempting the particular type of QA questions.
