CAT 2017 Mock Test released by IIMs

 CAT 2017
You may find fewer Non-MCQs (No-penalty) questions in CAT 2017 as against past 2 years, if the CAT 2017 test paper adheres to the CAT 2017 official Mock test released by IIM Lucknow today on October 30.
The DILR section in CAT 2017 exam may contain only 4 Non-MCQs as against earlier 8 while Quantitative Ability section may consist of only 5 Non-MCQs as against 7 in 2016 and 10 in 2015. This will increase the risk of getting negative marking in more questions as wrong answers in Non-MCQs are not imposed with any negative marking.
CAT 2017 Test Paper: How would it look like?

As per CAT 2017 official Mock test
Non-MCQs offer higher scoring chances as the candidates have no fear of negative marking. The process to answer a Non-MCQ is that instead of marking the answer option on computer screen, the CAT examinee will have to write the answer for the Non-MCQ in the given space on the computer screen.
Since, Non-MCQ question will not carry any negative marking, it means that even if  the CAT 2017 test taker writes a wrong answer in the given space on computer screen, no penalty of 1/3 negative marking will be imposed for the wrong answer.
It will help the CAT 2017 aspirants to attempt these Non-MCQs and score high as the correct answers will be awarded with +3 marks each while no penalty of negative marking will be there for wrong answer. Even if more such questions are attempted with wrong answer, there is no fear of deduction of marks.

5 things to do, if CAT 2017 Admit Card is blank

 CAT 2017
Have you downloaded and checked your CAT 2017 Admit card details on October 25? Does your CAT Admit card have complete information with your photograph? Lucky you, if everything is OK in your CAT 2017 Admit card. There are many CAT 2017 aspirants who have not received their CAT admit card or have received it blank or the CAT admit card has errors. Now they are in dilemma what to do and how to get the things right so that they can appear in CAT 2017 exam.
Many CAT 2017 aspirants who had registered for the exam and were eagerly waiting to view and download their Admit cards have not been able to view and download the same, although the CAT 2017 admit cards were made available for all the candidates on CAT website on October 25, 2017 from 12.30 PM onwards. Now the candidates are worried as to how they would be able to get their CAT 2017 admit cards even after making payment of the fee.
Another problem which the candidates are facing is that the CAT Admit cards in many cases contain errors in the personal details of the candidates. This problem may or may not have been caused due to incorrect submission of details in CAT 2017 registration. However, such candidates may not be allowed to appear in the exam as their names or addresses might be having errors and unless the same are corrected in time, their dream to get into an IIM may not come true.
CAT 2017 Admit card with changed download process from last year was released by IIM Lucknow on CAT website iimcat.ac.in on October 25 at 12.30PM. Now the candidates are required to check all their entry details to confirm their candidature.
The issue now is how to address the candidates’ concerns. Going by the past experience, following process could result in rectification of mistakes in CAT admit card and clarification by the CAT Centre on certain points is also of great help to resolve the issue of non-receipt of CAT Admit Card.

Download CAT 2017 Admit card first on Oct 25

 CAT ADMIT CARD

CAT 2017 Admit card download will be available from 1 PM onwards on October 25. The first activity on CAT Admit card release date should be to view and download your CAT 2017 Admit card and check which CAT test centre has been allotted to you before you take any decision to exercise the option of change in IIFT 2017 exam centre. The facility to change the IIFT test centre is available till November 3.
IIFT has advised, “Candidates should be careful while opting for the Admission Test Centre. A fee of `1,000/- will be charged for changing the opted Centre. No request for change of centre will be entertained after 3rd November 2017.”
CAT Admit Card: Document to decide your IIFT exam Travel Plan
The CAT 2017 Admit card was to be released on October 18, but the date has now been postponed by a week and the CAT aspirants will get their CAT Admit card on October 25. The delay has adversely affected the candidates who are appearing in IIFT 2017 entrance exam also as it will impact their decision whether to exercise the option to change the IIFT test centre or keep it the same.
Now with hardly a month remaining to appear in CAT 2017 on November 26 and in IIFT 2017 MBA (IB) entrance exam on December 3, only a few days are left to exercise your option of change in test centre by November 3, 2017.
Since IIM Lucknow has postponed the date of issuing the Admit card for CAT 2017 to October 25, it will be better to decide the appropriate test centre for IIFT 2017 in accordance with the CAT 2017 test centre to minimize the last moment glitches. Please note that you cannot change the test centre for CAT 2017.
CAT test centre: 1st or 4th choice? Check and decide
Although, you were asked to enter four preferred choices to select the CAT 2017 exam centre, the final authority to allocate the CAT exam centre out of your preferred four choices lies with CAT Centre 2017.
If you don’t get your 1st or 2nd preferred CAT exam centre, you have to go by the allotment but you cannot change the CAT 2017 exam centre under any condition and the only option left is to change your IIFT exam centre at a cost of Rs.1000/- and your request should be submitted latest by November 3.

So, in case of allotment of not so suitable centre for CAT 2017, you can change the test centre for IIFT 2017 but not for the CAT 2017.  IIFT has been benevolent enough to permit the change in the exam centre but at a price of course and within specified time. Readmore…

Know all the changes in CAT 2017 exam pattern and how to adapt your preparation

 CAT 2017

With an aim to make CAT 2017 exam more user friendly, IIM Ahmedabad and TCS have gone ahead and made some distinctive changes in the CAT 2017 exam pattern. Know how to adapt with these changes for your CAT 2017 exam preparation
CAT 2017 exam pattern has undergone a lot of changes since last year including Exam dates, Registration process, results, exam pattern, CAT 2017 paper pattern, etc. With an aim to make CAT 2017 exam more user friendly, IIM Indore and TCS have gone ahead and made some distinctive changes in the CAT 2017 exam pattern.
This might be surprise news for many CAT 2017 aspirants who were busy preparing for their exams based on the pattern of last year as they now have to re-adapt themselves with the new and changed CAT 2017 exam pattern.
This article will provide you the detailed changes in CAT 2017 exam pattern and expert tips on how to cope up with these changes and align your CAT preparation schedule.

1. CAT 2017 exam duration has been increased to 170 minutes i.e. 2 hours and 50 minutes. Earlier the time limit was of 140 minutes. The CAT 2017 exam Syllabus will remain same though.
2. Candidates have been given the flexibility to switch between sections at any point of time during the examination.  Thus you have the option to devote less or more time in a particular section as per your choice.
3. The number of questions per section has been increased to 50 questions. Quantitative Aptitude and Data Interpretation will consist of 50 questions and Logical Reasoning and Verbal Ability will have 50 questions each. Earlier these sections had only 30 questions each.
4. This year in CAT 2017 exam, there will be no tutorial before start of examination. Candidates are advised to check and practice the tutorial from the official CAT 2017 website prior to testing date.

With so many changes in CAT 2017 exam pattern, aspirants have to make some amendments in their preparation schedule and style to achieve excellent percentile in CAT exam.
• With the flexibility to switch from one section to other, aspirants must keep a check on their time spent on each question and section.
• Aspirant now has to attempt a total 100 question in 170 minutes while earlier it was 60 questions in 140 minutes. Thus the time per question has been reduced from 2.3 mins per question to 1.7 mins per question now.
• Increase in number of section question means greater representation of various smaller topics and different types of question. Thus, CAT 2017 aspirants now don’t have the liberty to leave any topic aside during their CAT preparation.
• With increase in exam time, candidates must adapt themselves to sit for 3 hours continuously while staring at the computer screen.
• With reduced Minute per question, candidates now need to be very choosy and sure as to which question to attempt and which to leave as attempting wrong or lengthy questions will kill their precious time.
• remember, sectional cut off is still prevalent for Admission to IIMs and other top B schools. Hence, candidates have to keep a check on their number of attempts in both the section. With an option of free movement between sections, chances of miscalculation and over-attempts are more.

Some suggestions for CAT 2017 aspirants to quickly adapt to the new changes in CAT 2017 exam pattern are:
1. Starting attempting mock test for 170 minutes with 50 questions in each section. Note the total time you spent on each question and section.
2. Follow a trial and error method to know the best possible strategy for your exam day. Since, now you have the option to switch section, hence decide which section you want to attempt first and in which order.
3. Analyze your results of every mock test to find out the best strategy which works for you.
4. Increase your accuracy and speed to attempt right question in less time to improve your sectional and overall scores.
5.  With increase in number of question, make sure you don’t leave out any topics without practice.

CAT 2017 aspirants shouldn’t be afraid of the increase in length of the test.  The time is also increased and every candidate has sufficient time.  The best part is the facility to navigate and switch to and fro both the sections.  There could be questions in one or other section where candidates may consume less time vis a vis the question where more time is required to solve. So practically the new pattern will be beneficial to them. Level of difficulty may remain the same while composition of questions may change to some extent. Aspirants are advised to focus on all the topics and practice them more.

5 challenges you must be prepared for CAT 2017 exam

 CAT 2017
With the CAT 2017 registration and error correction process already closed, now the only focus of CAT aspirants is on the CAT 2017 preparation for which only 50 days are left. There may be number of situations coming with different type of challenges before the CAT aspirants till the CAT 2017 exam is not over. CAT aspirants need to anticipate them, keep themselves ready to hold the bull by the horn and get ready for the CAT exam day. Despite announcing number of features in CAT 2017 exam, IIM Lucknow has stopped short of announcing the exact CAT 2017 exam pattern, CAT syllabus, sectional composition of the questions among other things.
Confidentaility holds back required information
There are many firsts introduced by IIM Lucknow in convening CAT 2017 and many  information items regarding the CAT 2017 exam pattern and content on which nothing has been divulged by the CAT 2017 convener in the name of confidentiality are there.
Situations may require change in preparation plan
All this could call for different topics, changes in the share of MCQs and Non-MCQs, increase and decrease in number of total or sectional questions among others, creating situations that may require sudden shift in your preparation strategy, going back to learn and prepare some forgotten type of questions.
It happened in last year CAT when the exact format of the exam could be known just a month before through the official CAT Mock test and almost all the CAT aspirants had to switch their preparation schedule and had to plan it differently. On the same lines CAT 2017 is keeping most of the things behind the curtain that could affect your preparation in the last 1 month and could impact on your percentile score.
